Because our destinations are in the southern Caribbean, we will have several days at sea. This is also a great opportunity to have conference sessions without missing the stops on the cruise. I woke up at 7:00 am this morning to grab a quick bite and head to the first session of the day. The session was\u00a0packed with information about several cruise lines upcoming activities.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/carnival-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Carnival Cruise Line <\/a>now has ships leaving from so many U.S. ports that 50% of the U.S. population can reach a Carnival cruise with a six-hour or less drive.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/msc-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">MSC Cruises<\/a> has a status match program. This means that if you are silver, gold, platinum, etc. with another cruise line OR a hotel\u00a0like Starwood, they will match that status for the first cruise you take with them. They are also partnering with Cirque du Soleil to incorporate a show on the\u00a0MSC Meraviglia starting in July 2017.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/holland-america-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Holland America Line<\/a>\u00a0is celebrating its 70th anniversary cruising to Alaska and 40th year at their exclusive lodge, Denali Square in Alaska, and they have partnered with America&#8217;s Test Kitchen to host culinary activities on their ships.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/viking-river-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Viking Cruises<\/a> is doubling their cruise capacity including some exciting<a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/viking-ocean-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\"> sea and ocean cruise options<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/norwegian-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Norwegian Cruise Line<\/a> is launching a new port in Belize, Harvest Caye.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/disney-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Disney Destinations<\/a> is offering exciting integrations with their characters including Moana at Aulani, the beautiful Disney resort in Hawaii, the re-introduction of Star Wars at Sea, a new Frozen theatrical show on the Disney Wonder, and the announcement of and the recreation of Pandora from Avatar at Animal Kingdom in Orlando.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ljohnson.dreamvacations.com\/travel\/promotion\/princess-cruises.do\" target=\"_blank\">Princess Cruises<\/a> is launching chocolate journeys on select trips and have a military benefit program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After the general session, I went to\u00a0lunch at Salad Creations, the made-to-order salad restaurant in Serenity. The salad was quite tasty with the house pineapple dressing. After lunch, I headed to a session about using Twitter to connect with customers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Oh! Don\u2019t forget to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/viptravelista\">follow me on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After the Twitter workshop, we walked\u00a0around the ship of course first stopping for<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-698 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/askviptravelista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_8765-e1482201600765-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"Chocolate Cake!\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/askviptravelista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_8765-e1482201600765-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/askviptravelista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_8765-e1482201600765.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> some food first. On the sports deck, we partook in some fun games from foosball to shuffleboard and then went\u00a0back up to\u00a0Serenity for a nap. After napping we got all dressed up\u00a0for the formal dinner and headed to the Captain\u2019s cocktail party where we took lots and lots of photos. And then it was time for\u00a0dinner. What was on the menu? Lobster and dancing! After dinner, it was\u00a0back to the room to turn in for the night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reflections and tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Take advantage of dressing up:<\/strong> Many cruise lines have a formal or cruise chic night. While you can always go to the buffet and not dress up, I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to dress up and have some fun.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Play games:<\/strong> Most cruise ships offer some sort of sports deck and\/or game room. Let the child in you out and play a little.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take photos:<\/strong> There will always be a photographer around, whether in posed shoots or candids. Allow them to take your photo. You are not required to purchase the photos and you never know, you might end up with some great pictures of fantastic memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is our first day at sea.
