All-inclusive Resorts : Are they worth it?

hotel-1831072_1280When I have clients going to the Caribbean, one of the first questions often asked is whether it is worth it to stay at an all-inclusive resort. The short answer is yes. From a financial standpoint, it is worth it because of all of the extra amenities you recieve. However, all-inclusive are not for everyone. There are a few things to think about when deciding if you would like to stay at an all-inclusive resort.

  1. Location, location, location: When determining if you want to stay at an all-inclusive, you first must think about where you would like to go. There are some destinations where in general there are no all-inclusive resorts, such as the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Additionally, there are some locations that due to socioeconomics, I would only recommend staying at an all-inclusive.
  2. What type of trip do you want: All-inclusive resorts offer all types of activities and food for the duration of your stay. You can enjoy everything from golf and scuba diving to live entertainment and water sports while at an all-inclusive, and many times these activities are included in your fee. If you are the type of person who wants to explore your surroundings and just use your hotel as a bed, an all-inclusive might not be for you. However, if you want to drink Mai Tais at the beach, hang out at the pool, and enjoy the resort, an all-inclusive is just right for you.
  3. Understand your budget: All-inclusives tend to cost more than a regular hotel. However, just like with a cruise, you must take into consideration all of the extra perks you receive. Many all-inclusives have multiple restaurants so that there is always something to eat and drink. The value for all the food and drinks, many times including alcoholic beverages, can add up fast. Add in all the activities and the price quickly becomes worth it. No matter the budget though, there is an all-inclusive that would meet your needs.
  4. Do you want to be pampered: The more higher end the all-inclusive, the more you will be pampered. Everything from butler service to rooms with swim up access are available at all-inclusive hotels. There are wonderful honeymoon suites and packages that can make your vacation that much more special. If you even want a guarantee of a quiet adult getaway, there are several adults only all-inclusive resorts that will meet your needs.
